Luxi ~ Incident light meter adapter for iPhone

For professional photographers, an incident light meter is rather important. Unlike a reflective light meter, which measures the amount of light bouncing off a subject, an incident light meter measures light before it reaches the subject. This is helpful in situations where lighting is inconsistent. A new product called Luxi is designed to turn your iPhone into just such a light meter.

Luxi, when placed over the iPhone's front-facing camera, is able to detect the amount of light falling onto the subject of the photo. The creators claim that it can be used with any light meter application that supports the iPhone's front-facing camera. A deal is in the works to add a Luxi-specific mode to the iOS Pocket Light Meter app.
The difference between Luxi and a light reader that only uses the camera is that it captures light from a 180-degree angle, which, in theory, should help photographers get a more accurate reading of the light in a scene. The creators compared the results of Luxi with a Sekonic L-308 handheld light meter, and they were exactly the same.

Funding for the Luxi is underway on Kickstarter. The creators currently have over double the US$10,000 goal from backers. The device is available for both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4S, with a minimum pledge of $17 for the early bird special. Once those dry up, a $19 pledge is required. Luxi will have a final retail cost of $24.95 when it ships in April.

20 Interesting and Useful Water Facts

  1. Roughly 70 percent of an adult’s body is made up of water.
  2. At birth, water accounts for approximately 80 percent of an infant’s body weight.
  3. A healthy person can drink about three gallons (48 cups) of water per day.
  4. Drinking too much water too quickly can lead to water intoxication. Water intoxication occurs when water dilutes the sodium level in the bloodstream and causes an imbalance of water in the brain.
  5. Water intoxication is most likely to occur during periods of intense athletic performance.
  6. While the daily recommended amount of water is eight cups per day, not all of this water must be consumed in the liquid form. Nearly every food or drink item provides some water to the body.
  7. Soft drinks, coffee, and tea, while made up almost entirely of water, also contain caffeine. Caffeine can act as a mild diuretic, preventing water from traveling to necessary locations in the body.
  8. Pure water (solely hydrogen and oxygen atoms) has a neutral pH of 7, which is neither acidic nor basic.
  9. Water dissolves more substances than any other liquid. Wherever it travels, water carries chemicals, minerals, and nutrients with it.
  10. Somewhere between 70 and 75 percent of the earth’s surface is covered with water.
  11. Much more fresh water is stored under the ground in aquifers than on the earth’s surface.
  12. The earth is a closed system, similar to a terrarium, meaning that it rarely loses or gains extra matter. The same water that existed on the earth millions of years ago is still present today.
  13. The total amount of water on the earth is about 326 million cubic miles of water.
  14. Of all the water on the earth, humans can used only about three tenths of a percent of this water. Such usable water is found in groundwater aquifers, rivers, and freshwater lakes.
  15. The United States uses about 346,000 million gallons of fresh water every day.
  16. The United States uses nearly 80 percent of its water for irrigation and thermoelectric power.
  17. The average person in the United States uses anywhere from 80-100 gallons of water per day. Flushing the toilet actually takes up the largest amount of this water.
  18. Approximately 85 percent of U.S. residents receive their water from public water facilities. The remaining 15 percent supply their own water from private wells or other sources.
  19. By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body has lost over 1 percent of its total water amount.
  20. The weight a person loses directly after intense physical activity is weight from water, not fat.

Immediately eating fruits after meals will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Thre fore take fruits 1 -2 hours after meal or 1 hour before meal.

3. Don’t drink tea:
Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the protein content in the food we consume to be hundred thus difficult to digest.

4. Don’t loosen your belt
Loosening the belt after meal will easily cause the intestine to be twisted and blocked.

Chrome And Firefox Communicate Via WebRTC (video)

Google and Mozilla have today released a WebRTC demo video showing how their two browsers Chrome and Firefox can now let users communicate via video and chat using WebRTC.

WebRTC has been developed and is a new set of technologies that allows clear crisp voice, sharp high-definition video and low-delay communication via web browsers. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action between Firefox and Chrome.

Google explains a little more about the WebRTC demo and development: “From the very beginning, this joint WebRTC effort was embraced by the open web community, including engineers from the Chrome and Firefox teams. The common goal was to help developers offer rich, secure communications, integrated directly into their web applications.”

“In order to succeed, a web-based communications platform needs to work across browsers. Thanks to the work and participation of the W3C and IETF communities in developing the platform, Chrome and Firefox can now communicate by using standard technologies such as the Opus and VP8codecs for audio and video, DTLS-SRTP for encryption, and ICE for networking.”

How to Unlock a Computer Without a Password Reset Disk

A locked computer can result in dead-end frustration, potentially costing hundreds of dollars in repair bills. Unlock your computer without the aid of a password-reset disk by accessing the default Administrator account from Safe Mode and unlocking your computer via console commands. This can generally be done in minutes.

Instructions:
·
  •       Restart the computer.
·
  •       Press and hold down the "F8" key as the computer is booting. Release "F8" when a list of options appears and select "Safe Mode With Networking" from the list.
·
  •       Click on the "Administrator" account.
·
  •       Press the Start button on the lower left-hand side of the screen.
·
  •       Type "control userpasswords2" in the text field that appears and press "Enter." Uncheck "Users must enter a username and password" and restart the computer. It will be unlocked.
·
  •       If this does not resolve the situation, press the Start button and chose Control Panel from the menu that appears. Click the arrow in the Control Panel to bring down a drop-down box and choose "All Control Panel Items." Navigate to "User Accounts" and then "Manage Another Account." Choose your account and select the option to edit it. Select "Remove the password." Repeat for every account accessible through the Control Panel.

Tips & Warnings:

  • If these instructions do not restore access, consider a third-party software program such as Windows Password Reset (see Resources). Always download unfamiliar software through a trusted site such as CNet or Download.com
  •   Create a password-reset disk as soon as possible after you regain access to your computer.

LaCie 5big 20TB Thunderbolt Storage

As well as announcing the availability of their new limited edition Blade Runner external 4TB hard disk drive designed by Philippe Starck. Lacie has also unveiled their massive 20TB storage devices in the form of the LaCie 5big.

The LaCie 5big builds on the technology from the 2big Lacie storage devices but offers an impressive 20TB of storage starting at $1,200 directly from the LaCie website.

The LaCie 5big features speeds up to 785MB/s thanks to five 7200rpm/64MB cache hard disks preconfigured in RAID 0, within the 5big. The five hot swappable 5big disks enable users to customise their RAID configurations, to create lightning-fast volume with three disks in RAID 0 and a safe volume with two disks in RAID 1 if desired.

Since it's generally overkill to use all five drives in RAID 1, and extremely risky in RAID 0, the best way to use the 5big Thunderbolt is to set up two separate volumes, one with two hard drives in RAID 1 and the other with three drives in RAID 0. You can use the first to store important data and the second for frequently assessed data.
